Known for their head-bopping, hip-thrusting, zalghouta-inducing tunes, Restless Leg Syndrome seamlessly fuse Western and Middle Eastern references in their work. Their tastefully-crafted mélange strikes a nerve; providing a trace of nostalgia for an ever-growing diaspora and a hint of excitement to the unfamiliar ear. Having toured the SWANA region after releasing “Dabkeh” and dug up an expansive library, their newest body of work samples gems from Egypt, Jordan, Algeria, Morocco, Irak and Lebanon.
RLS released the first of four EP’s in January of 2021 titled “Venom”. The second EP “Falcon” was released in February featuring characteristic bass-heavy tracks and foot-stomping breaks.
The third and latest EP release ‘Spirit’ progresses the trio’s genre-defying sound with five tracks. The first track ‘Direction’ kicks off with its quintessential boombap sound highlighting Restless Leg Syndrome’s affinity for Hip Hop. The groups’ mastery of the art of scratching is tastefully peppered throughout the EP to complement their arsenal of vinyls. Their wide scope of references provides a level of depth to tracks like “Anamur” bringing together African-inspired drums and oriental strings.
Restless Leg Syndrome plan to drop the fourth and final EP of the collection in June, leading up to the release of Totem, a 2LP vinyl release featuring all tracks from the four EPs (available for pre-sale).
